A GROUP of up and coming young Ulverston swimmers made the trip to Blackpool to compete in Garstang's open graded meet.

Adam Jones and Adrian Lee Cheong both proved to be stars of the day and were untouchable at butterfly.

They quickly picked up the pace and after brilliant turns saw them come out ahead of the pack and they stormed to wins with their times qualifying them for speeding tickets.

Jones then did a repeat winning the 50 breaststroke but had to settle for another speeding ticket while Cheong also had a brilliant effort at this stroke taking the gold medal in 40.35.

At 100 individual medley, Jones gave a superb display to take the gold medal in 1:18.24 and also won a 50 backstroke silver, while Cheong won silver for 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle and 100 individual medley.

Annabelle McKnight did herself proud at 50 freestyle, the 12-year-old driving hard to the finish to take gold in 32.79, while another fine display at 50 backstroke saw her powerover the final length to take bronze.

Backstroke specialists Malacky Kenny and Nishanth Arun stormed to magnificent victories while Annabel Crayston was desperately unlucky to have to settle for silver in backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

Her finest effort came from her 50 butterfly where she found herself just touched out of the win by hundredths of a second.

Seth Kelly also gave a great account of himself with two well deserved bronze medals in the 50 backstroke and freestyle.

The Otters' two other medal winners were 9-year-old Abigail Caine and 13-year-old Abigail Miller both of whom took bronze at 50m butterfly.

Club mates Rebecca Duckworth, Fergus Bell and Samuel McKnight also did well, making it a very worthwhile outing for the club.
