FORMER Bolton Wanderers star Jussi Jaaskelainen's son Emil helped Kendal Town get off the mark with their first league point on Monday.

The Blackpool striker, who has joined the Mintcakes on a month's loan, came off the bench and rattled the bar with a free kick, and that was the closest either side came in a goalless draw against Widnes.

The point takes Town out of the bottom two in the BetVictor League North West Division, and Steve Edmondson's side now hope to build on that performance and grab their first win when they travel to Mossley on Saturday.

Kendal then return home to face Trafford next Tuesday evening in another league game.

There was more encouraging news from the club this week when the Mintcakes' reserve team managed a creditable 1-1 draw with visitors Lancaster City in their first competitive game since they were reformed.

Charlie Collinge's strike midway through the second half put them ahead but a penalty miss by Jack Brown proved costly as Lancaster's late equaliser meant the Lancashire League fixture ended 1-1.
