CHALLENGING weather conditions greeted competitors in the testing Kendal Castle Autumn Sprint Triathlon.

A total of 159 triathletes, some new to the sport, completed the event, which was hosted by T2.

The new bike route, which now includes a neutral zone so time is not lost between traffic lights, proved a success and the popular scenic run around the castle just challenging enough for everyone to enjoy.

And it was Kendal Tri Club member Ben Hodgson who emerged triumphant, just breaking the hour barrier as he completed the course in 59 minutes, 57 seconds followed by Patrick Walkington (1:01:40) with Brian Payton (1:02:22) in third.

Ladies' winner Nicola King came home in 1:09:40 with Suzanne Toppin (1:05:54) second and Sarah Atkinson (1:12:16) taking third spot.

The 2020 event will be held on April 26 with the February Aquathlon taking place on February 8.
