AFTER holding the lead for a long period, Windermere let slip their advantage and fell to a 22-10 defeat in a Cumbria Division One clash against Hawcoat Park at Dawes Meadow on Saturday.

They conceded an early try when winger Benji Platt latched onto a fine cross kick and touched down in the corner, and after an even period when both sides tested each other out, fly half Brad Marwood's 35 metre penalty extended the visitors' advantage.

Windermere then hit back when after a good spell of pressure they touched down in the corner.

The hosts cranked up the pressure midway through the second half and took the lead when hooker Dan Harrison scooped up a loose ball to score in the corner.

But Hawcoat Park responded strongly and with 15 minutes left regained the lead when their pack drove forward and Callum Ramsay grabbed the try, Marwood’s conversion taking the score to 15-10.

Mere looked to hit back again and it took a great tackle from Jason Milby to stop a counter attack in its tracks, but Hawcoat made sure of the win when they were awarded a penalty try after Marwood was pushed when trying to chase his own kick.
