A DISAPPOINTING 2-6 home defeat by West Derby leaves Windermere Men’s 1s still seeking their first points in North League 2 West.
Mere were caught napping in the opening minutes when the bustling Merseysiders won the ball high up the pitch and drove across the circle score. Mere levelled minutes later when skipper Adam Whitehead stylishly finished a great team move but only for the visitors to add two more goals in open play before the break.
West Derby then went 4-1 up before Mere pressure finally told and Whitehead struck a penalty corner rebound high into the net.
However, any comeback were dashed when West Derby survived a string of penalty corners and then caught Mere on the break for two more goals, ensuring all the points went back to Liverpool.
Mere’s man of the match was Whitehead with a captain's performance.
