PROMISING youngster Reuben Eley led a fantastic performance by Ulverston Amateur Swimming Club when they travelled to Workington for the local club's President's Open Meet.

The club had a superb day, taking home a haul of 20 gold medals and a host of silvers, bronzes, PBs and qualifying times for future events.

Shannon Parker set the standard with a brilliant win in the gruelling 1500 freestyle, taking a well earned gold with a powerful performance.

Then 9-year-old Eley entered the picture and had an amazing day, taking home brilliant golds at 400 and 200 freestyle then following up with further gold at 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley.

To complete an outstanding display, he was runner up in five other events.

Ethan Alpress was just as impressive, taking gold in all six events he entered.

After comfortable victories in the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley, he had to use all his power and technique to win at at 50 and 100 backstroke then 50 breaststroke.

And he completed his gold medal by just edging the 50 butterfly in a blanket finish.

Indya Sharp also took multiple gold results with four wins as well as three minor place medals.

She powered her way to close wins at 50 backstroke and butterfly then turned on the power again in the 100 breaststroke to take the gold in a storming finish.

And she crowned her day in the 100 individual medley where she put on a superb display to win by a clear seven seconds.

An outstanding performance came from another 9-year-old as Penelope Boyle who came away with a grand total of eight medals.

She was rewarded with a gold for her 400 freestyle and was unlucky to have to to settle for the runners up medal in 50 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 100 and 200 individual medley. Breaststroke specialists Rebecca Duckworth and Grace Weaver both had spectacular wins.

Duckworth stormed to the 200 breaststroke gold by a clear three seconds while Weaver's brilliant turn helped her edge the 50 breaststroke by a split second.

Nathan Caine and Daniel Jesson added to the boys' contribution winning gold, Caine producing a commanding 200 backstroke effort to earn a comfortable victory and Jesson showing ability and stamina to win the lung bursting 400 individual medley.

Adam Jones also gave a performance to be proud of taking seven medals from seven swims and a great day was completed by minor place medals for Marley Griffiths, Maisie Scales, Jack McMullen, Fergus Bell, Imogen Stoker, Isaac Tizzard, Anna Morrison, Abigail Caine, Olivia Penellum, Phillip Carayston and Annabel Crayston.
