AMID a flurry of cards given out by the umpire, Kendal Ladies 1 went down 3-0 in an ill tempered North West Premier Division One game at Bowdon.

The Greens readily expected a tough game against a strong, physical side and so it proved, with a rough, uneven pitch hardly helping matters.

With only one substitute versus Bowdon's five reserves the odds were stacked against the visitors, but a gritty first half show saw the Greens keep things level up to half time and they still harboured hopes of a victory.

However, after the break, the game disintegrated after Kendal's Rosie Dale was yellow carded, and she was quickly followed by her captain Vicky Whalley-Jones for disagreeing with the umpire's decision.

To make matters worse, within seconds of her leaving the field, the opposition scored a goal from a straight strike.

Bowdon also suffered from umpiring decisions and at one point three members of their team were in the sin bin.

The visitors made every effort to make use of this prime opportunity to strike back and with brilliant midfield play between Nicola Hartley, Emma Reid and Mel Whalley-Jones, they came close to a leveller.

Five goals by Donna Robinson guided Ambleside to an emphatic 6-0 victory over Keswick Seconds in a Cumbria League 1 clash at The Cinderovens in Kendal.

Ambleside dominated from the start with opportunities spurned by Robinson and Maddie Townson, but their pressure told on six minutes when a long corner was drilled into the net by Robinson.

Ambleside continued to press while Keswick struggled to get out of their own half with Robinson, Townson and Lucy Dixon creating further chances for the hosts.

Keswick struggled to create any opportunities and when they got into the attacking areas Ambleside defended well and turned defence into attack.

And the home side doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when Robinson cut inside the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot.

The second half followed the same pattern with Ambleside dominating while further opportunities were missed, most notably through Townson who went clean through only to be denied by a last gasp stop from the Keswick keeper.

However Robinson, after earlier seeing a goal ruled out, completed her hat trick when she made a powerful run before drilling the ball into the net.

Robinson went onto score two more goals then turned provider for Townson who slotted home from close range to put the gloss on a fine first victory of the season for Ambleside, who host Carlisle Seconds on Saturday.
