THERE was joy at last for Windermere Men’s 1s as they comfortably beat Lymm 4-1 to climb away from the foot of North League 2 West.

Will Dolman broke the deadlock by winning a short corner which was converted at the back post by Sam Whitehead.

Then skipper Adam Whitehead doubled the lead early in the second half when a driven ball was deflected off Lymm’s centre back and goalkeeper and fell for him to tap in.

Sam Whitehead broke away to score his second with a stinging shot but though man of the match Ben Williamson and James Kirkpatrick defended well, Lymm pulled one goal back before Dolman put the result beyond doubt with a calm finish at the other end.

A much re-shuffled Windermere Men’s 2s were edged out in a close home encounter with Lytham Men’s 2s in NW League Div 4NN.

A solitary Lytham goal just before half time proved decisive, while Mere's man of the match was goalkeeper Josh Fayers.

Kendal Men's 1s' game at Urmston fell victim to the weather, while the Ladies 1s fell to a 4-1 North West Premier Division One home defeat to Lytham St Annes Ladies 1s.

With key players Mel and Vicky Whalley-Jones missing, a reshuffled side saw Celia Powell moved to midfield with Rosie Dale coming up to the forward line and Karen Tyson stepping into centre mid.

And the revamp looked have paid off when 18 minutes into the game and with their first penalty corner, Kendal went ahead.

However, their joy was short lived and the Greens were 2-1 behind by half time.

They made a slow start to the second half with forward Alisa Wright receiving a green card, but with the visitors having two players sinbinned, they seized the initiative only for a series of penalty corners to come to nothing.

And Wright was sinbinned in the later stages as Lytham extended their lead, and Kendal will hope for better luck away to improving Ben Rhydding 2s on Saturday.

Windermere Ladies are now second in the Lancs Central Premier League thanks to Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Southport.

Two penalty corner strikes shaped by skipper Abbey Carroll and scored by Kitty Brownell and Kitty Carr reflected the pressure created by busy midfielders with Zoe Birkett, Jess Fox, Chloe Balmer and Hannah Clark dominant.

Players’ player Sarah Hartley scored a third and though Southport rallied in a more even second half, the outcome was never in any real doubt.
