THERE was a dramatic end to the Victoria Floodlight Bowling League as Victoria A clinched the Hayes Garden World Premier Division title with an 8-2 victory against Holme A in the final game.

Holme, had been undefeated but the hosts extracted revenge for their earlier 10-0 defeat with a dominant display.

Yvonne Gregory and Chris Wyatt saw off Liam Baxter and Dave Crayston 21-16 then Paul Crossland and Alan Medcalf defeated Steve Ashburn and Dave McRoy 21-15 while Matt Simpson and Sue Hillbeck edged out Tom Baxter and Ellie Chandler 21-18.

And Victoria rounded off an impressive night with Dan Hartley and Jane Glaister's 21-18 victory against Dave and Bob Grisedale.

Burneside won the Cumberland Building Society League and clinched promotion after they saw off Holme B 8-2, and Netherfield A are also up after defeating Milnthorpe 10-0.

Victoria B defeated Staveley by the same score, while Lindale survived relegation with a crucial 8-2 win over relegation rivals Abbot Hall.

Sedbergh edged out Arnside 6-4m, Allithwaite defeated Netherfield B 10-0 before the final game saw Subscription defeat Heversham 8-2.

The same venue saw a top quality field of 32 do battle for a bumper £1,000 prize pot at the Alfa Aesar sponsored Open Singles tournament last week.

And it was Billy Thornton won emerged victorious, seeing off Ian Nicholson 21-12 in the final to land the £400 cash prize.

Thornton saw off Billy Caldwell, Dave McRoy and Steve Carruthers before booking his place in the final when he defeated Andy Thornton 21-17 in the semi final.

Nicholson progressed to the final with wins over Dave Hourihan, A Millard, and Paul Kissock then booked his final slot with a 21-15 win over Danny Rogers 21-15 in the last four.
