BATTLING Windermere gave a good account of themselves before being edged out 29-10 in a Cumbria Division One derby at Furness’s Strawberry Grounds home.
In surprisingly good conditions, the hosts scored their first try after barely 60 seconds when Rhys Studt went over in the far corner.
The game was turning into a fiesty encounter with a couple of players sin binned, but Furness retained the initiative and the lead was extended when Dan Speers and Taz Nueto crossed to make the half-time score 15-0.
Dan Scott scored their bonus point try but then he was almost immediately sin binned and that appeared to galvanise Windermere who began to look dangerous and within minutes, they had pulled back two tries to reduce the gap to 22-10.
But Furness sealed victory when Studt ran half the length of the field for his second try of the afternoon.
