Georgia Stanway picked up yet another award during her stellar year, as she was named Women’s Rising Star in the Ladbrokes North West Football Awards.

The 20-year-old Barrovian, last season’s PFA Young Women’s Player of the Year, saw off competition from Evie Priestly of Burnley, Fylde Ladies’ Georgia Stevens and Liverpool’s Amy Rodgers to claim the prize.

It has been a truly memorable 2019 for Stanway who, on top of her PFA award, was named player of the match for her performance for Manchester City in last season’s Women’s FA Cup final against West Ham.

She was then the youngest member of the England squad that reached the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup during the summer and played in front of a record crowd for a Lionesses match in this country of 77,768 against Germany last Saturday.

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold claimed the Men’s Rising Star award, ahead of the likes of Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and Wigan loan star Reece James

Stanway’s clubmate and captain Steph Houghton was named Women’s Player of the Year, while Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk claimed the award of Premier League Player of the Season.

Danny Rowe (AFC Fylde) took the National League prize, Scott Davies (Tranmere) for League Two, Ian Henderson (Rochdale) for League One and James for the Championship.
