THE surge up the North One East table continued for Kendal on Saturday as they returned from their first ever visit to Malton & Norton with another victory under their belt.

The hosts, who had won at league leaders Scarborough in a Yorkshire Cup tie the previous week, were expected to provide a tough test, but the Mint Bridge men edged an entertaining game to become the first visiting side to win at M&N this term.

Greg Wrathall, Jordan Johnson and Nick Carlton returned to a revamped Kendal side which fell behind to a try by centre Tom Foan which was converted by Paul Angus.

But the visitors were level within minutes when Steven Nelson set up Jordan Johnson for a try which Glen Weightman converted.

They went ahead when Nick Carlton intercepted an offload and went in under the posts, Weightman again converting, but Will Bell's converted try brought the home side level again.

In the second period, Kendal had the advantage of the slope and went in front again when Carlton weaved his way through for his second try.

Yellow cards for Johnson and Ben Dixon made things difficult for Kendal, and M&N took advantage with Foan's try tied the scores once more.

But the visitors were not finished and a Chris Evans run set up Weightman to score and make it 24-19, and despite having to weather a late storm of pressure, Kendal held on for a fine win which puts them in great heart for Saturday when they host struggling West Hartlepool.
