SOUTH Lakeland runners turned in some top class performances in the second Mid Lancs Cross Country League fixture at Hyndburn on Saturday.

Glaxo Hoad Hill's Matthew Elkington (35-25) placed third in the senior men's race behind Preston's Daniel Bebbington (34-19) and Lancaster University's Jacob Cann (34-31). Kendal's Alasdair Russell (36-16) was mixing it with the front runners and placed a creditable sixth and was followed over the line by Glaxo Hoad Hill's Jack Wright (36-24) and Kendal's Reuben Copley (36-56), who was second U20.

And there was a third place for Helm Hill's Sharon Taylor (25-19) in the ladies' race with Ribble Valley's Nicola Jackson (24-37) and Liverpool's Rosie Johnson (25-08) just getting the better of her. Kendal's Rosie Woodhams (26-58) turned in another gutsy run to finish sixth and first LU20 while Sedbergh School's Ellie Mather (27-59) was tenth.

Lilian Lewis (14-39) and Georgia Heath (15-11), running for Kendal-Helm, were second and third in the U17 ladies' race behind Southport Waterloo's Olivia Logan (14-06). Eden's Charlie Harding (22-42) was third in the U17 men's race, headed by Blackburn's Matthew Ramsden (21-48) and Lancaster & Morecambe's Rhys Ashton (21-56).

The U15 boys' race saw Henry Hunter (13-21), of Kendal-Helm, place third after being outpaced by Blackpool's Luke Rawcliffe (13-01) and Blackburn's Dexla Thompson (13-09). In the girls' race the Leven Valley pairing of Jessica Bailey (11-20) and Olesia Winder (11-31) celebrated finishing first and second.

And girls from South Lakeland also dominated in the U13 race with Leven Valley's Georgia Bell (10-40) leading home the 41 runners ahead of Sophie Cowin (10-48) and Kate Collin (10-54) running for Kendal-Helm.

Ambleside's Harvey Shaw (8-34) just missed out on second place in the U11 boys' race, finishing one second behind Lancaster & Morecambe's Ben Brassington in the chase to catch Blackburn's Samuel Aspey (8-19).
