A TEAM from Cumbria TaeKwonDo did superbly at the sport's British Championships in Manchester, with a small and inexperienced team of 15 coming home with a fantastic medal haul and doing the club proud.

Gabriella Pettigrew of Kendal was a particular star, becoming champion to add to the Scottish championship she already holds.

She won her first fight 23–0 and was winning her second fight 9–0 when her opponent was withdrawn by the referee, and went on to win the final 44-4.

Tillie Wilson, who is also from Kendal, won the bronze medal with a superb display.

Kamen Marshall, who is from Barrow, landed a silver medal while fellow Barrovians Mike Kernaghan and Scott Phizacklea took bronze medals.

Other competitors for Cumbria TKD were Carla Gardiner, Amelie Harrison, Jack Dixon, Harry Westmorland, Mark Bennett, Maya Stopford, Mya Lightley, Mia Atkinson, Kitty Wilson, and Riley Pettigrew.

And the Cumbrian team did well to rank 40th out of the 88 teams even though they were pitted against many clubs with far more competitors.
