AFTER a series of mixed performances, Kendal Men's 1s roared back to winning ways with a convincing 5–0 win over Ormskirk at The Queen Katherine School.

The Greens were chomping at the bit from the first whistle and took the game to Ormskirk.

Pinning the visitors back into their own half, it seemed as though it would only be a matter of time before the deadlock was broken and sure enough, James Marston opened the scoring when he spun onto a loose ball in the D and finished with a reverse stick swipe from close range.

A second followed soon after a when a great team move led to Phil Conlin driving forward from midfield.

He played a defence splitting one-two with Steven Olliver then found Tom Taggart on the back post for a tap-in that gave the keeper no chance.

A third goal came just before half time when Nick Davis found himself within shooting distance, but once again the percentage ball was played and Alex Hyman had a tap-in past the visiting keeper.

Ormskirk came out fighting in the second half and for a time the game ebbed and flowed with space all over the pitch.

But the Greens defence held strong with Liam Platt impressing in his first game at left back and Simon Millington plucking every aerial that came near him out of the air.

Rob Cartwright also showed his class when he reacted twice in quick succession to thwart the Ormskirk strikers and keep his clean sheet intact.

And before long, the Kendal midfield asserted their dominance once again and it was death by a thousand passes for the visitors as Mark Addison, Phil Conlin, Aaron Screen and man of the match Ayrton Boyd slowly stifled their opposite numbers.

Screen got his captain's goal when his strike from the top of the D squeezed through the keeper's legs and thundered into the backboard.

And Kendal completed a convincing 5-0 victory when after a penalty corner, a well worked move ended with Matt Marston materialising seemingly from nowhere to emphatically put the ball over the line from close range with the final touch of the game.

Windermere Men’s 1s were in similarly devastating form as they climbed to sixth in North League 2 West with a 6-1 win against Liverpool University.

The students began at a terrific pace but were repeatedly caught on the break as Mere kept their composure and picked them off with some slick passing by James Kirkpatrick, Ben Williamson, Adam Whitehead and Will Dolman plus clever movement off the ball.

By half-time Mere were five up and the game was realistically over.

Facing a re-arranged match the following day, Liverpool simply stopped attacking after the restart and their half-court, defensive press stemmed the tide of Mere goals.

Both teams scored a single goal each in a largely uneventful second half and Mere completed a 6-1 win thanks to goalscorers Adam Whitehead (2), Sam Whitehead (2), Josh Bellis and Pierce Harris.
