AN ATTENDANCE of more than 200 players ensured a Girls' Rugby Festival at Kendal RUFC at the weekend was a huge success.
On a busy afternoon at Mint Bridge, teams from 13 different clubs and with an age range of 11-18 participated in the tournament.
The event saw under 13, under 15 and under 18 sections, with all games using the new RFU half game rule which ensures all players are on the field for 50 per cent of all games.
“It is fantastic to see all these young girls having fun and learning new skills," said Kendal RUFC director of mini and youth rugby Sarah Keast.
"It’s the first time all pitches have been taken up by just girls here at Kendal which is something we are enormously proud of.
"The World Cup has definitely made more people aware of the game, and that there is a rugby position for everyone."
The girls' team trains at Mint Bridge on Sunday mornings from 10.30am and anyone interested in joining them or who would a like a chat for further information, please contact Sarah, who is also team manager, on minirugby@kendalrugby.co.uk.
