A FIVE star performance by Max Ainsworth saw him shine for an in form Kendal contingent who travelled to Barrow for the host club's open meet.

Despite facing competition from a huge amount of entries from around the county, the party took 29 golds with 13-year-old Ainsworth's personal tally being five after an outstanding display.

He was in dazzling form, starting with the 50m butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle where e showed great technique coupled with superb talent to take a hat trick of golds.

Then he moved on to 100 breaststroke and quickly got into his rhythm before moving up a level to take another gold with a comfortable win.

His final gold came from a magnificent all round effort in the 100 individual medley where his superior breaststroke enabled him to pull clear and score a fantastic victory.

Sophie Gibson’s performances were equally as outstanding.

In the 50 and 100 backstroke she pulled away from her challengers and stayed calm to take both golds, then her 50 and 100 breaststroke produced similar results as she won both events comfortably.

Isabelle Wall-Budden also gave another of her stunning performances in taking four golds, a silver and bronze.

At 50 butterfly she showed her sprinting prowess powering over the first length and into the last length she raised the tempo to triumph in a storming finish.

Her middle distance swimming was a delight to watch where after a solid win at 100 backstroke she scored a hard fought win in the 100 individual medley.

But it was in the 100 freestyle where she really shone, dominating the race so well that her 50m split had her a full second ahead and then she lifted the pace and eased to victory with a simply superb swim.

Wall-Budden then added a silver and bronze medal to complete her collection.

Speed merchant Mathew Foster was another who enjoyed great success lifting three gold and three silver medals.

He took gold in the 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle followed by silver in the 50 backstroke and breaststroke with dazzling swims, then continued his efforts with the gold in the 100 breaststroke and another silver for 100 backstroke.

Jake Smith, Elodie Malcolm and Ellie Bottomley all picked up a pair of gold medals with stunning swims.

Malcolm was successful at 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly then proceeded to add silver for her 50 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.

Bottomley was outstanding at breaststroke and took both the 50 and 100 titles with magnificent swims.

Meanwhile Smith showed nerve and confidence to take wins at 50 and 100 breaststroke then the nine-year-old added a silver to his clutch for good measure.

A further seven swimmers emerge with a gold medal each and some of them adding silver and bronze.

Jacob Klijn won the 100 backstroke, Annie Bottomley the 50 butterfly, Benjamin Rowley the 100 backstroke, Keira Nelson the 100 freestyle, Emma Duxbury the 100 butterfly, Lara Smith the 100 breaststroke and finally Leo Murray triumphed in the 100 breaststroke.

Minor place awards went to Amelia Bird, Ruby Duxbury, Samuel Crosher, Eve Murray, Kayleigh Craggs, Lucy Klijn, Hannah Smith, Jack Brockbank, Molly Towers, Leon Priestley-Nying, Bethan Rowley and Thomas Klijn to make it a great day for the club.
