IN form Nathan Gray took the honours when Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers closed their season by hosting their popular Christmas Pudding 10k road race through Ulverston’s scenic Priory course.

A cold morning with strong sunshine and near perfect conditions saw more than 260 runners hit the streets in the pursuit of a fast time on this fast flat course.

Runners from as far afield as Liverpool and the Isle of Man were off at pace though Ulverston’s streets which soon saw the field thin to a leading group who were all in contention coming into the finishing straight.

But it was Border Harrier Gray who took the win in 32.26 2 seconds ahead of Ross Campbell of Barrow Striders and third placed Tom Collins.

The field then came in floods 32 runners all under the 40 minute time certainly was testament to the great conditions.

Mathew Knowles of Lancaster & Morecambe wad fourth and first under 18 runner with the first home runner back Andrew Dorrian who finished fifth in 34.04.

First female home was Natalie McCarron Cumberland AC followed by Lucy Varney of Kendal AAC.

Hosts Hoad Hill Harriers won the men's team prize with Kendal AAC taking the women's prize.

A one mile fun run staged in conjunction with the main event also proved popular with many competitors taking part donning seasonal fancy dress.

“It was a fantastic race day for Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers and great to see so many clubs racing and enjoying our courses,” said race director Louise Thompson.
