A LONG serving member of the Kendal based Cumbria Taekwondo Club has earned a gold medal for Great Britain in an international competition.

Kelvin Lowe, who is 27 and has been training since the age of 9, was selected for the national squad in the 'para poomsae' discipline, which has now been accepted as a sport by the Olympic movement and will be included in the next Paralympics in Tokyo next year.

Kelvin, who lives in Kendal, performed superbly in Italy and landed gold in the P20 U30 category.

Club officials said they were delighted with his achievement and said it illustrated how the club welcomed those with additional or special needs and helped them achieve their potential.

"It truly is a massive personal achievement and he has done the club proud," said a club official.
