THE snow hit Kendal Victoria Winter Bowling League this week as the Sunday doubles tournament was called off.

But after being frozen off last week, the singles league defied the conditions to continue on a cold and sunny Friday afternoon.

And after a competitive day of action unfolded, Martin Gilpin remained undefeated at the top of the division.

Gilpin, who played twice on the day, started off with a commanding 21-8 victory over June Kidd before defeating Alan Gilpin 21-14 in the second game.

In the other games Dave McRoy went second in the table after he defeated both Alan Salisbury and Joey Bean.

McRoy started off with a hard fought 21-13 victory over Salisbury before seeing off Bean 21-7 to remain undefeated.

Alan Gilpin, who lost to Martin Gilpin, remains in third place thanks to his dominant 21-3 victory over Charles Graham.

Terry Mercer won both of his games, registering victories over Ian Mitchell and Alan Salisbury, while Steve Ashburn defeated Pete Blamire 21-16 and Charles Graham 21-13.

However, the most dramatic game of the day saw Paul Crossland hold his nerve to defeat Mick Simpson 21-20.

It was a case of so near yet so far for Simpson who narrowly failed to build on his earlier result when he defeated Stephen Watson 21-13, and he remains seventh in the table.

At the bottom, Graham, Salisbury, Dave Colloby, Molly Hughes and June Kidd continue to look for points as they try stay clear of trouble.
