A TEN day lay off has given Kendal Town boss Steve Edmondson time to reflect after a New Year's Day defeat at Widnes left his side in the BetVictor League relegation zone.

The Mintcakes ushered in 2020 in the worst possible manner as their 4-0 defeat at the Halton Stadium, which came after a performance which was as off-key as the scoreline suggests.

And that, coupled with fellow strugglers Ossett United's surprise win at Brighouse Town by the same scoreline, has plunged Town into the drop zone.

Kendal had no game scheduled for last Saturday, so Edmondson had a chance to organise a regrouping of his troops in time for Saturday's trip to Trafford.

When the Manchester side visited the ST&B Accountants Stadium earlier this season, they saw off Town 7-2 on a evening when Edmondson was scathing in his criticism of the Mintcakes' performance.

So Saturday represents not only a chance for revenge but also an opportunity to reverse the form slump which has heightened fears the dreaded drop to the North West Counties League could become a reality.
