THE Westmorland FA Senior Cup quarter finals produced lots of drama, with the clash between Kendal County and Keswick at Parkside Road a particularly absorbing encounter.

The tie was a repeat of last season’s final, and in the game, action from which is pictured right and left, it was cup holders County who edged home, though they had to dig deep in a hard fought contest which was settled by Connor Walmsley’s stunning strike with just five minutes remaining.

There was even more drama at Woodside Road when Appleby defeated Endmoor KGR 4-2 on penalties.

The teams were all square at 2-2 after 90 minutes and it was the same after extra time, but Division One leaders Appleby held their nerve to win the penalty shootout and seal a last four spot.

Milnthorpe Corinthians are also into the semi finals following a 3-1 win over Windermere.

Former Kendal Town player Steven Yawson scored twice while Matthew Knipe was also on the score sheet.

Windermere pulled a goal back and created opportunities but Milnthorpe saw out the game to secure their semi-final spot.

There was one Junior Cup quarter final tie after Greystoke defeated Ambleside United 3-0 at Hilliard Park.

In the West Lancashire League Division Two, Kendal United picked up a hard fought point as they drew 1-1 at Chipping.

United did well to claim the draw after playing most of the game with 10 men following a first half red card.

Antony Slater scored for Chipping while Kendal replied through an own goal.

This Saturday, Kendal County entertain Milnthorpe Corinthians in a West Lancashire League Division One fixture.

Kendal United host Keswick in The Benevolent Trophy while Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves are home to Fulwood Amateurs' A Team in The Stewart Rowe Memorial Cup.

All games kick off at 2pm.

In the James Cropper Westmorland League Division One, Niall Renwick’s brace and a strike by Jake Holden guided Kirkoswald to a hardf ought 3-2 win at Penrith Reserves, while Sedbergh and Dent United won by the same score against Wetheriggs United.

Keswick Reserves are now 11 points clear at the top of Division Two following their 4-2 win over Kendal County Reserves while Appleby Reserves and AFC Carlisle drew 0-0

In Division Three, Penrith Royal defeated Endmoor KGR Reserves 4-0 with Alex Jackson,Tim Jackson, Craig Willan and Adam Carter finding the net.

Ullswater United won 4-2 at Langwathby United, Staveley United Reserves defeated Eden United 4-1, Kirkoswald Reserves saw off Wetheriggs United Reserves 4-0 while Sedbergh and Dent United's A team edged out Braithwaite 3-2.
