MARTIN Gilpin climbed to the top of the Kendal Singles Winter Bowling league after he picked up four wins from four games this week.

With the recent bad weather causing a backlog, the Singles League played some games on Wednesday as well as Friday.

And Gilpin was in imperious form on both days, picking up wins over Terry Mercer and Molly Hughes on Wednesday before seeing off Ian Mitchell and Steve Ashburn on the Friday.

Gilpin defeated Mitchell 21-7 while he claimed a crucial 21-11 win over Ashburn to round off a strong week.

Alan Gilpin moved into second position after he picked up three wins from five games.

On Wednesday, he lost 21-20 to Steve Ashburn before bouncing back to defeat David Colloby 21-17, then on Friday he battled back from losing 21-19 to Mick Simpson to see off Keith Atkinson and Dave McRoy.

Ashburn too had a strong week with wins over John Iddon, Alan Salisbury and Alan Medcalf.

Chris Wyatt won all four of his games as he moved up the table following victories against Tim Kings, David Colloby, Joey Bean and Davis Thornborrow.

Colloby pulled away from trouble at the bottom of the table with a crucial 21-6 win against Davis Thornborrow, while McRoy just about kept his title hopes alive after he defeated Hughes, Charles Graham and Pete Blamire.

Mick Simpson followed up his win against Alan Gilpin with an emphatic 21-3 success against Graham.

The Sundays Doubles League was postponed for a second consecutive week due to rain.
