LANCASTER & Morecambe AC ace Matt Knowles stormed to victory in the latest Kendal Winter League event which was staged at Birkrigg.

The fast rising star clocked a time of 20 minutes, 46 seconds to finish an impressive 45 seconds ahead of runner up Charlie Ing of Calder Valley.

Black Combe’s Josh Hartley was third.

A trio of Helm Hill runners, Seb Sillito, Kieran Hodgson and David Goadby, came in together within the top 10 as they finished seventh, eighth and ninth accordingly.

Hodgson was first MV40 home.

The top 20 saw plenty of representation from the younger runners, as in addition to Knowles, Rossendale’s Charlie Taylor finished 13th in 23 minutes, 51 seconds, his Rossendale colleague Ben Kirkman was 16th and Keighley & Craven’s Jack Walton was 19th.

First lady home was the in form Chloe Rylance of Ambleside.

She clocked an impressive 25 minutes, 28 seconds to take 28th spot overall.

Leven Valley’s Jess Ensol was second woman to finish, registering 26:48 for 40th place overall.

And her club mate Edward Sargent was victorious in the under 17 race in 14 minutes and 31 seconds.

A Leven Valley runner was also the victor in the under 15 race as Will McNally was first across the line in 10 minutes, two seconds.
