KENDAL Town were frustrated as a waterlogged pitch prevented them from extending their unbeaten run to four games.

Their scheduled home game against Dunston at Parkside Road fell foul of the weather as they looked to continue their good form of late.

The Mint Cakes have been impressive in recent games, picking up seven points from their past three games in the Northern Premier League Division One North West.

They hope for better fortune on Saturday as they are due to welcome City of Liverpool to Cumbria.

Kendal will be looking for revenge after Liverpool inflicted one of their heaviest defeats of the season, Town losing 4-1 in the reverse fixture at the beginning of the season.

However, since the turn of the year, Kendal have made a lot of changes to their squad which has resulted in a dramatic upturn in form.

During that time, they have defeated play-off hopefuls Trafford and Tadcaster, and they recently battled back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw with Tadcaster at Parkside Road.

Conversely, City of Liverpool started the season well but have slumped down to 15th in the table and are now just five points ahead of Kendal, who currently occupy 19th spot.

A home victory on Saturday would boost Town’s hopes of pulling away from the relegation zone ahead of their trip to bottom of the table Pickering Town the following weekend.

The game is being billed as a relegation six-pointer, and Town will hope to get some points on the board before they welcome promotion-chasing Workington Reds on February 22 in a big derby game which promises to bring a big crowd in. Following the derby, Kendal will travel to Ramsbottom United on February 29, while games away to Marske United and the rearranged home game with Dunston are still to be scheduled.

Away from the first team, Kendal Town Reserves have been left equally frustrated with the weather as they are still waiting to play their first league game of 2020. Their last game was way back in November and have been unable to try to move off the foot of the Lancashire League.
