MEMBERS of Kendal Swimming Club joined together to celebrate their successes in different categories.

Head coach Linda Womach presided over the event, at Carus Green Golf Club, where team managers gave details of their respective team’s performances at events in both Cumbria and Lancashire.

The club’s senior team took part in the Swim England North West Arena League and their performances throughout the three rounds had been memorable with outstanding swims from both individuals and relay combinations.

They had also competed in the North Lancashire Swimming League and had performed impressively against the elite of North West swimming.

The junior ‘Diddy League’ team as reigning champions had to concede their title to an outstanding Carlisle outfit.

They finished runner-up with some superb performances from the club’s future stars, including county relay team members Elliot Woodburn, Jacob Klijn, James Escolme, Sophie Roberts and Mathew Foster.

The club also had Megan Jones, Rosemary Swallow, Bethan Rowley, Lucy Sargeant, Sophie Gibson, Elliot Woodburn, Adam Stansfield, Max Ainsworth, Sophie Roberts, James Escolme and Mathew Foster all qualified to compete at the North West regional summer championships with Jones, Swallow, Gibson, Woodburn, Roberts, Escolme and Stansfield all moved on to attend the winter championships at regional level.

The club recognised its most outstanding achievers with suitable awards going to Jones, Escolme, Woodburn and Molly Towers. Prolific winner and club record breaker Jones was selected as ladies’ captain of the Cumbria team at the Inter Association competition. She is now passing on her skills by coaching the club’s youngsters.

Escolme had a superb year, entering 16 events in the counties age group competitions and taking 13 awards in total. Moving up to regional level he came away with two silver and two bronze medals.

The highlight of his achievements was selection to swim in the national inter counties team championships held at ponds forge, Sheffield.

Woodburn has also been a multiple winner and at club level he took every club championship he entered with his times setting a host of new club and championship records.

He set new county age group records, and competed in Glasgow in the Scottish national age groups where he was crowned champion in five events.

Towers was awarded for her success in open water swimming, first getting some amazing results in the great north swim then tackling the north west regional championships, before she competed in the Scottish West Regional Championships where she was runner up in her age group.

Towers also performed in the counties 4x1 mile epic swims over four lakes and finished third in her age group.

Star awards were handed out to rising stars, including Evan Dart, Anna Roberts, Sophie Gibson, Lucie Bulman,Felicity Pattinson and Kayleigh Craggs.
