Cumbria Taekwondo took a team of 14 fighters to the Lanarkshire Taekwondo Open tournament in Motherwell, Scotland.

The youngest participant, Bariella Pettigrew of Kendal, recently just turned 7-years-old.

The oldest entrant for the club was Keith Bennett who is also coach of the Furness club.

The coaching team was made up of chief instructor Master Kevin Thompson (head coach at Ulverston), Beverly Fallows (head coach at Kendal) , Sharon Titterington (Kendal , and Ryan Lightly (Ulverston).

Gabriella Pettigrew went on to win the 20kg pee wee female gold medal, winning the final 75 points to 55 after recording a massive win in the previous round with a score of 80 points to 19.

Kitty Wilson, 8, of Kendal ,claimed the 26kg gold in pee wee. Also, elder sister Tilly Wilson, 10, shared the third spot with fellow club member Mia Lightley, 8, after being withdrawn due to an eye injury. Both were awarded bronze medals.

Cumbria also claimed gold in the under 36kg child, with Mia Atkinson, 8, scoring 35 to 28.

Maya Stopford, 10, had a final score of 29 points to 4 before the referee stopped the fight. Under 44kg male child Finley Smith, 10, was awarded bronze, despite being ahead and with eyes on the final he was deemed to have committed a succession of fouls that led to his disqualification.

Under 45kg cadet male Jack Dixon, 13, exited in a semi final in a very large group, and under 57kg cadet male, Harry Westmorland, 13, was awarded bronze.

Riley Pettigrew, 12, won his final in the 53kg cadet male 46 points to 11. Other results were under 68kg male senior Mark Bennet winning bronze, under 63kg male senior Scott Phizackle winning silver in an all action final, under 80kg male senior saw a silver medal for Kamen Marshall, and Furness coach keith Bennett took bronze to the group winner, 22-11.

In all a return of 13 medals.
