Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings from the 0-0 draw with Stoke City.

Christian Walton 7

Apart from a poor kick early on, which gave Sam Clucas a chance to shoot from distance, didn’t put a foot wrong. Held on to a Campbell strike in the first half, and palmed a second half effort behind for a corner. Collected a 12th clean sheet of the season.

Ryan Nyambe 7

Forced Nick Powell back, and despite coming up against two players most times he touched the ball gave as good as he got. Couldn’t find the final ball from two good crossing positions in the second half. Rasped a 25-yarder just wide of the target in the first half. His attacking input will be missed should he move to centre half on Saturday.

Darragh Lenihan 7

An early booking was a particular blow, ruling him out of the next two matches, but managed to put that behind him to put in a solid display. Continued to be aggressive and didn’t allow Stoke to build any momentum from playing in to their front man.

Tosin Adarabioyo 7

Saw plenty of the ball, as Stoke sat off, which made it more difficult for him to pick passes through the lines as he likes. Managed it on occasions, and many of Rovers’ bits of good play came from his through-balls. One excellent late interception to deny Gregory breaking clear.

Amari’i Bell 6

Got in to several good crossing positions, but seemed reluctant to deliver, and run at his man on other occasions. Played a little too safe. Wasn’t troubled by Ince defensively which meant he could spend much of the game on the front foot.

Lewis Travis 8

Continues to be a real driving force for this team, and when Rovers needed a lift of energy in the second half, more often than not it was Travis who provided it. Kept things simple in possession, dogged off the ball.

Bradley Johnson 6

Like Rovers, started off well, keeping the team moving forward, but became a little slow and ponderous as time wore on. Couldn’t find a way to break the box and create extra attacking option that Rovers needed.

Stewart Downing 6

Passed and probed coming in from the right flank, and was Rovers’ main source of creation for long spells. But coming infield so much only played in to Stoke’s hands as Rovers lacked width.

Joe Rothwell 6

Had the ball in the net early on, only to be flagged offside, and should have done better when getting on the end of a Gallagher knockdown, lifting it over the bar. Tried to inject pace and energy where possible, but much of it was sideways. A welcome return though from a hamstring problem.

Sam Gallagher 5

To his credit, worked incredibly hard, often tracking back to his own corner flag, but that came at the detriment of his goalscoring chances. Seemed to drift between playing out wide and as a centre forward. Had one excellent chance which Butland denied when quick off his line.

Adam Armstrong 6

Started off really bright, but Stoke found a way to marshal him well, with two men long balls sent in his direction. Still managed to get five shots away, including a second half strike that came after a purposeful break from the left wing.

Subs

Dominic Samuel 6

Showed a willingness to run with the ball, and get involved, but his introduction felt a little late.

Joe Rankin-Costello 6

One excellent touch to Bell apart, couldn’t be the man to unlock the Stoke City door.

Danny Graham 5

Thrown on for the final 10 minutes. Saw a shot deflect wide as Rovers tried to apply pressure late on.

Not used: Jayson Leutwiler, Elliott Bennett, John Buckley, Ben Brereton
