KENDAL Ladies second team picked up their first win of the season after they defeated Keswick Seconds 4-1 at Queen Katherine School on Saturday afternoon.

The 2nds, who are managed by Marcus Strong, continued to field a very young squad of players against an opponent who also had a young group in what turned out to be a good game of hockey.

Kendal created a lot of chances throughout the first half, while Keswick defended relatively well.

However despite not being able to find the net, Kendal persisted and were finally rewarded on the stroke of half time after Laurel M scored from a penalty corner.

The hosts ran riot during the second half and scored their second soon afterwards.

A short corner by Bec Barnes fell to Laurel M who scored from close range.

Kendal continued to create further opportunities most notably from Sophie S and Laurel M.

However the hosts made the game safe when Leah D made it 3-0.

Keswick battled back and scored a goal, before testing the Kendal keeper who stood firm as they had to dig deep with the visitors continuously pressing.

However Laurel M completed her hat trick in the last minute after she scored from another penalty corner.

Kendal are scheduled to be away at Penrith Seconds on Saturday however the coronavirus pandemic this game has been postponed.

A statement on Penrith Hockey Club's Facebook page said: "Sad sad news.

"Due to the coronavirus situation and the info from England Hockey all future games have been suspended."

Kendal Ladies 2nds' last game of the season was due to take place on Saturday March 28, when they were scheduled to be at home to Ambleside Ladies Hockey Club at Queen Katherine School.
