Wattsfield Girls FC's under 15s team had a stunning season in the North Valley and Burnley Unity Leagues Under 15 Division.

The team, which is managed by Chris Miller, played its first ever season in a division where the girls were up against football teams from Darwen, Clitheroe, Haslingden, Clayton and Penwortham.

However, the move to the league was a momentous decision for the young squad who had previously spent three years in the South Lakes Girls League, a competition which provided so much experience and progression for the players.

The under 15s played three 11-aside games for the first time ever, where they scored 15 goals and conceded just two, while their remaining games were all nine-aside.

The girls also picked up consecutive wins over teams such as Clayton and Clitheroe, while also defeating Darwen 3-0 in the cup, which was a notable result after they lost 5-4 to the same opponents earlier in the season.

Wattsfield also claimed four points against a tough Penwortham side, as the team had their most consistent season ever since they were formed three years ago.

The new league was beneficial for the players who were on course to win the league and cup before the season came to an end.

The league voted to null and void the fixtures as points per game wasn’t a plausible outcome, especially for Wattsfield who would have finished second if it had gone to points per game.

There was also plenty of positives for the club's other girls teams, which played in the South Lakes Girls League, where they had seven teams from under 15s down to under nines.

The club managed to field two teams in the under 13s, under 11s and under 9s age divisions as the juniors excelled and continued their development in the game.

Wattsfield Girls manager Chris Miller said he is excited for the future: "I am really looking forward to whenever next season gets underway, I found the last campaign more of a challenge as we had never seen these teams before.

"In previous seasons I have known the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents so this is a challenge in which I have really enjoyed”
