AN ULVERSTON swimmer has added the county championship to her already impressive record.

Indya Sharp, 17, was part of the Ulverston Otters swimming squad who took part in the Cumbria Age Group Competitions and County Championships before the lockdown.

Indya and her teammates received praise for their performances at the event.

In the open 16 and over age group 50m Breaststroke, Indya found herself with six other swimmers all matching each other stroke for stroke.

From the outset of the race, they all quickly found their rhythm and stormed out over the first length at an impressive pace.

Cockermouth’s Eliza Nicholson took first place ahead of Copeland’s Rebecca Wilson.

During the race, Indya displayed her true character, determination and technique coupled with outstanding talent.

Her will to win joined with her ability to pull out that little bit extra when needed, and it saw her claim third place, enabling her to advance to the championship final.

All seven finalists alongside Indya began by storming through the 50m point and all eight hit the pads within seconds of one another.

Indya turned up the pressure from the start.

She was able to take the championship in 34.14 and turned the tables on Nicholson and Wilson who also finished on 34 seconds.

She went on to take third place in the 50 Freestyle and fifth place in the championship final.

Another successful Otter was Ethan Alpress who kept up his winning ways with a win in the 14 years 200m Backstroke and qualified for the championship which he won with a time of 29.68.

He also added a pair of second place awards to his collection from his performance in the 50m Breaststroke sprint and the 200m Individual Medley.

The 50m Butterfly also saw a win from 15-year-old Adam Jones, alongside teammate Daniel Jesson.

Both swimmers clocked in at 34 seconds, followed by both having matching times of 1:12 for the 100.

Jones won against Jesson by inches.

Other members of the Ulverston Otters squad including Marley Griffiths, Reuben Eley, Fergus Bell, Isaac Tizzard and Olivia Penellum all took home various badges and awards throughout the competition whilst representing their club. The event was held in Workington.
