COUNTY football clubs will soon be benefiting from a new development grant to create new teams.

Five clubs from across the county are to receive a boost ahead of next season after they successfully applied for The Westmorland County Football Associations new Club Development Fund.

Ambleside United Juniors, Milnthorpe Town, Wattsfield Youth as well as Lunesdale United and Kirkby Stephen Reserves successfully applied for the grant which sees all five teams pick up £500.

Lunesdale United who return to The James Cropper Westmorland League after not being able to take part in the previous campaign will use the £500 to resurrect their squad ahead of the new season.

Kirkby Stephen are putting the grant towards their brand-new Reserve Team which is likely to play in James Cropper Westmorland League Division Three.

Meanwhile Ambleside United Juniors, Milnthorpe Town and Wattsfield Youth are putting the £500 towards the creation of their new under 18 teams who will be playing in The Westmorland Football Associations new Under 18 leagues.

The Westmorland Football Association who announced the Club Development fund back in April welcomed applications from Clubs who were wanting to create or resurrect their teams

The funds were also useful for clubs developing an Under 17 and Under 18 Team, while applications were also open for clubs’ keen to form reserve squads.

The Clubs are grateful for the work by the WCFA.
