KIRKBY Lonsdale Rugby Club are calling for new players to join their team in the run up to the new season.

As the coronavirus lockdown begins to be scaled back, sports club are preparing for their upcoming seasons.

The club at Kirkby Lonsdale has released an appeal to the public for those interested in joining their team after the previous season was cut short.

Despite the shortness of the season, the club saw a variety of successes in a short space of time.

The club released a statement reading: “Last season, albeit a bit short, was full of great moments for our senior men’s teams.

“We have been seeing at least 70 men turning up for mid-week training, to our 1st XV finishing mid-table in the Northern Premier and the Development XV and Wanderers winning their respective leagues.

“Our 1st XV is the highest-ranking team in the area and our development and Wanderers are also the highest ranked at their levels, playing in the North West Premier and League 3 next season.

“We are looking for players to join us.

“If you would like to try rugby at Kirkby Lonsdale, we would like to invite you to pre-season.”

Second team manager John Bowden said: “As a club we are always looking for new players. At the moment all three sides are running strong sides. We are always keen to add to our team.”

Kirkby Lonsdale’s last game before the lockdown took effect, was on March 14 against Lymm where the team won 29-14.

The club looks to continue its progression and take as many new players as they can forward in the upcoming season.

The club does not currently have a confirmed date for when it can return to training, but the teams are hoping to put on some non-contact training and fitness sessions when the government regulations permit them to. Future club meetings are set to take place to plan what training can take place, however the club is being forced to wait on the RSU and the Government to make further announcements.
