Kendal Town’s future is looking bright as two new players signed up to join the team’s ranks.

The Mintcakes have announced the signing of one of their former players Shaun Gardner, while James Hoskins has also arrived at the club.

Gardner had previously played alongside the Cumbrian side in the Bill Robson Cup, while Hoskins will be coming in to bolster the squad in goal

It was confirmed that the two players had signed for the club last week and there is still hope that the good news will continue with more new players to be signed up.

Town manager Chris Humphreys said: “We wanted players who could bring in more experience and we got that with these lads.

“One aspect we wanted to work on was improving our scoring capability. We get a lot from Hugo, Danny and myself, as well as the other lads, but we needed to improve that before the new season started.

“Jamie is a really good young keeper. Morgan Bacon is a fantastic keeper as well, and if it wasn’t for him, we would have lost at least three of our games. But bringing Jamie in will cover us if he’s ever injured and just to bring in a diversity of talent, especially since Luke left.

“James was released from Watford so he’s coming to us from a good standard Championship club. He has played for us before so we know him and what he can bring."

Humphreys also revealed he hopes to add a goalkeeping coach to the club in the future which he believes would bring "huge benefits" for his players.

He added: “I’ve had calls with both the lads, and I can tell they share the same philosophy as me. Not in it for the money, they’re here to play the game and do well. What more can you ask in a player?

“We have seen three players leave us for Lancaster since the summer when I first started so it’s always good to keep an eye out for new talent.

“But if everyone else is wanting our players it must mean we’re doing something right.

“I can’t wait to get my lads back to training and making themselves ready for the next season. It’s going to be a good one, I can feel it.

“Exciting times are coming up and I can’t wait to see the players and the fans back where they belong.”

Jay Rossi said: “I am delighted that we have signed James Hoskins as well re-signing Shaun Gardner. James used to play for Watford Academy and then played for us in a Bill Robson Cup game where he was impressive and, on his performance, we decided to sign him.

“With regards to Shaun, he has been with the club before and had recently played for Penrith; he is a goalscorer.”
