For the French born Redpath, this was his first game with the team and his performance was noted by local rugby figures, as well as his former school in Sedbergh.

Mr Dan Harrison, Sedbergh School Headmaster said: “We are all absolutely delighted to see Cam make his debut on Saturday for Scotland. We could not have been prouder of his performance and how he contributed to a memorable victory. Knowing Cam, he will take it all in stride and we are confident he has a big future in the game.”

Mr Simon Mulholland, Director of Rugby said: “Cam had a simply outstanding debut for Scotland on Saturday.

“We could not have been prouder of him and we cannot wait to follow his international career going forward. I have no doubt that he is going to be a great. The future looks very bright for both Cam and Scottish rugby.”

Commenting on the game, Kendal Rugby Chairman Stephen Green said: “There were clear differences in the use of the back line by both teams.

“We seemed to be focused on kicking away the ball once we got possession. If that was the design of the game plan or simply a lack of ambition we don’t know, but it wasn’t the play that was going to win them that match.

“From the perspective of the club we were delighted to see Mark Wilson back on the pitch and starting as well.

“He looked very promising and he’s been described by Eddie Jones as a 100% fighter in the newspapers. Not one to let the side down.

“Sadly, it seemed the team didn’t follow that.

“The Scots took their opportunities where they found them.

“Cameron Redpath, who actually went to Sedbergh, had a great game. He was a great loss for England U20s.

“From us we wish all the best to Mark, Cameron and all the others for the future.”
