KENDAL Town came away with a loss against Widnes in a game that saw a potential goal of the season.

The game took place on December 4 and saw an intense face off in the non-league Division one fixture.

After some back-and-forth action, Widnes were able to claim the first goal in the 14th minute of play.

McMillan managed to pull off a half volley into the top corner with the outside of his boot from 30 yards out.

Kendal hit back and put Widnes under pressure just nine minutes later when Chris Wraighte turned home a rebound from close-range.

The home boss praised his team’s response in the second half, although they had to wait until the 71st minute to notch themselves back in front when McGrath hit a vicious drive into the top left-hand corner from the edge of the D.

Kendal conceded another goal nine minutes later as the ball went into the top corner of their net.

Later, former Town player Greg McCaragher was given the nod to join the left of a Widnes front-three.

The game hit a crucial mark when both teams raced for possession of the ball.

McMillan had the ball in the net after soon after gaining the upper hand, but he was flagged offside after Oliver Lombard could only parry Jordan Barrow’s initial effort.

Kendal fought for control early in the second half but Widnes got the better of the exchanges.

Kendal was able to fend off several more attempts from McGrath and Ste Rigby who both came close, but they conceded an equaliser that came against the wrong play midway through the first half.

Despite this every time they came close to finishing things Kendal prevented them from doing so.

Once possession was lost, Widnes were able to score again.

Despite the back-and-forth action the match ended on a 3-1 loss for Kendal.

Widnes’ Alex McMillan, John McGrath, and Ryan Jennings all staked claims for goal of the season during the match.
