KENDAL faced a third defeat after a hard-fought match against Glossop.

The Mintcakes’ relegation difficulties continued after they suffered a third consecutive defeat losing 2-0 at Glossop North End on Saturday.

The Cumbria squad, who are now seven points adrift of safety, saw two goals scored against them in the first half.

However, thanks to a competitive second half and several strong performances, Kendal was able to fend off every wave of attack from Glossop North End shot stopper Harry Allen.

Kendal fielded a much-changed team where Fleetwood loanees Akiel Raffie, Daniel Edwards and Billy Batch started with both Edwards and Batch making their debuts, while Jack Byrne also made his debut.

The Club also gave local player Darren Nightingale the captains armband after Jordan Scott left the club last week.

Glossop made the better start and created early opportunities before opening the scoring after 33 minutes when a cross in from the right-hand side was headed into the corner by Jamie Rainford.

The hosts continued to dominate the first half before scoring their second on the stroke of half time after Lee Wilshaw headed the ball into the net from a Louis White corner.

Kendal improved during the second half with Nicholas Hepple and Daniel Edwards creating opportunities and while Glossop had a majority of the ball and created more opportunities most Kendal were more in the game.

Glossop shot stopper Harry Allen made some good saves to deny Kendal as the half wore on while Jamie Rainford missed further opportunities for the home team.

Kendal competed in the second half and showed more promises however the damage was ultimately done in the first half as the Mintcakes are scheduled to play Workington Reds at Parkside Road on Monday, December 27, pending any further government restrictions.
