A JUNIOR football team from Windermere has topped their regional league at the first time of asking, leaving teams from across North Lancashire and South Cumbria in their wake.

Heathwaite under-13s football team, who play their home games at The Phoenix in Windermere have come out top of the table after competing in the Lancaster and Morecambe Youth League for the first time, finishing 12 points clear of 2nd place Cockerham under-13s.

Helen Vinall, assistant coach said:

"It’s been a long season and the boys have done well against some really physical and talented teams."

There are 15 teams in the Lancaster and Morecambe FA Youth League with teams from South Cumbria qualifying too.

Manager Pete Whitehead said: "I’m extremely proud of the boys and they have worked hard and played consistently well this season, they have a great team spirit."

Highlights of the season include coming back from 3 -1 down against Carnforth to go on to win the game."
