Kendal Town needed all of four minutes injury time to salvage a point in a 3-3 draw at home to Whitby.

Winger Carl Osman ensured Town marked their return to Unibond action with a point, poking the ball home from close range after an Ian Kilford free kick had seen the ball land at his feet.

The number seven had initially put his side ahead on 29 minutes chipping into the net from outside the area after the keeper had raced out of the box and left his goal exposed.

The visitors had done little to worry Kendal in the first half, but shortly after the half time break they drew level. With the unmarked Danny Brunskill picking up the ball on the edge of the Kendal box and firing past Newnes on 49 minutes.

Whitby then saw number 11 Karl Charlton sent off for an altercation with Town defender Dave Standley on 63 minutes. However, despite being down to ten men it was the team from Yorkshire who went on to take the lead.

Tom Raw made it 2-1 to Whitby as he slid in to connect with a Steve Huggins cross on 71 minutes. The lead didn’t last long though, a superb 30-yard shot on the turn from Michael Cole drew the home side level five minutes later.

The final ten minutes were frantic as both teams tried to secure all three points. As a Kendal attack broke down Tony Hackworth collected the ball and burst through Town’s ranks. The winger dummied his way into the area and slotted the ball past Newnes on 89 minutes.

Whitby celebrated as if they’d won it. But a final twist deep into injury time ensured Osman stole the headlines and Town nicked a point.
