CUMBERLAND made a bold bid to forced a win from their three-day Minor Counties Championship match with Cambridgeshire as James Smith hit a magnificent 130.
Going into the last day, Cumberland were six wickets down and only 144 runs ahead of their hosts.
But Smith's 130 not out, which featured 13 fours and four sixes, together with team-mate James Beaumont's unbeaten 77 enabled them to delcare at 356-6.
When Cambridgeshire batted - set to chase 313 - they were redueced to 134-5 but managed to stop the rot thanks to Williams (69) and Bruce (59no), and eventually drew the game at 285-8.
Netherfield spinner Chris Miller took 3-88 and 3-83 in the match.
