KENT Valley Road Club's Adrian Yate made a fantastic debut in his first 50 miles time trial on Sunday beside Bassenthwaite Lake, taking second place in the open section of VTTA North Lancs event in a stunning 1hr 53mins 56secs.

Adrian reproduced the form that has seen him unbeaten in all Kent Valley club events so far this season and he did it in the longest time trial he has ever attempted.

Only Preston Wheeler Paul Fleming bettered him with a 1-53-22 and the quality of his performance was underlined by his near three-minute beating of Lancaster CC's Duncan Orme (1-56-46).

The veterans' event that preceded the open riders also produced some fast actual times despite a nagging westerly breeze.

Kent Valley's Billy Rodgers rode 1-54-04 and other South Lakeland and Furness times were: Mike Speight (Barrow Central Wheelers) 2-04-31; John Leach (KV) 2-05-28; Terry Bell (KV) 2-06-37; Richard Belk 2-10-49; Tony Dixon (KV) 2-12-02; Ian Saunders (BCW) 2-25-50; and Anne Nicholson (KV) 2-32-22.

Kent Valley's Richard Lannaghan made a successful return to road racing last week. Starting the latest round of the Edge Cycleworks Crits at Lancaster as a fourth category rider, Richard emerged 20 minutes and three laps later in first place and a category higher.

Then, on Saturday, he rode the 80k John Cull Memorial RR on the Bickerstaffe circuit near Skelmersdale - 15 laps of a fairly flat circuit with a long drag rather than a hill and a fairly fast 40mph descent.

Richard managed to stay near the front for most of the race, keeping himself out of trouble and keeping an eye out for wheels in the sprint. He made the best of a good position off the last bend to finish fifth, less than two bike lengths behind the winner.

Sharon Bianchi also rode the same event and came home comfortably in the bunch to claim the prize for first lady.

The latest midweek club 10 at Milnthorpe was won by Bruce Attwood in 23-29. Matt Woods was second on 24-37 and other leading times were: David Baxter 24-49; Tony Dixon 25-41; William Sisson (Junior) 25-43; Richard Belk 25-54; Steve Hodgson 25-58; Simon Harlow 26-24; Paul Harlowe 26-34 Steve Worthington (Tri Pr) 26-51. Lynn Hamel was the fastest woman in 29-02 ahead of Ann Nicholson on 29-28.

Adrian Yate and Douglas Davies rode a two-up in 22-21.
