HAVING made an amazing second place debut in his first open 50 miles time trial a week earlier, Kent Valley's Adrian Yate went one better on Sunday, winning the Border City Wheelers event on the same Bassenthwaite Lake course in an extraordinary 1hr 52mins 47secs - an average speed of 26.6mph.

Adrian beat the host club's Lee Foster by two-and-a-half minutes and the only other South Lakes and Furness finisher was his Kent Valley clubmate Terence Tideswell (V40) in 2-11-53.

In between riding the 50s, Adrian Yate extended his unbeaten 2004 sequence in Kent Valley club events by winning last Wednesday's club 25 on the Levens course in 55-34 from Ben Lawson on 57-24; Andrew Barlow 57-37; Paul Trott 59-41; Steve Crook 59-48; back in action Mike Birkett 1-00-41; Tony Dixon 1-01-23; Richard Belk 1-01-48; Simon Harlow 1-02-51; Simon Overing 1-03-15; William Sisson 1-03-44; and Paul Longster 1-03-50. Fastest woman was Lynn Hamel with 1-11-06.

Another Kent Valley man in flying 50 action at the weekend was Bruce Attwood, who moved into the lead in the Lakes and Lancs sporting courses competition V40 category with maximum points in the Horwich CC SPOCO 50 on a lumpy three-lap course around Cockerham and Garstang on Saturday.

Bruce actually finished second to Rob Sharman (recycling.co) but, because Sharman's team is not SPOCO affiliated, Bruce took all 120 points up for grabs with a time of 1-59-41, a minute down on Sharman. Bruce's clubmate Andrew Barlow clocked 2-15-15. Gethin Butler clinched the NLTTA 25 miles title at Garstang on Sunday in his continuing build-up towards the national championship. He clocked 53-10 and Kent Valley Road Club's Steve Crook again got under the hour with 59-52 for 11th place. Meanwhile, KV newcomer Martyn Bell improved his personal best yet again with 1-00-8 in only his sixth ride of his first season! Frank Kilburn clocked 1-09-55 and Bruce Barnes 1-11-02.

In last week's Ribble Valley CRC 10 at Garstang, Barrow Central Wheeler Mike Speight rode 23-15 and Frank Kilburn (KV) did 26-52. The event was won with a 21-12.

This Sunday sees a full field of 60 2nd and 3rd category riders drawn from all over the country lining up in the Kent Valley Road Club Bob Swailes Memorial Road Race over nine laps of the undulating Old Hutton Circuit, near Kendal. The event starts at 10am.
