UniBond Premier Division Kendal Town 1 Nantwich Town 2.

A MICHAEL Lennon goal nine minutes from time gave Nantwich Town a deserved three points at Parkside Road and left Kendal teetering on the brink of the play-offs.

On a bleak night Kendal rarely threatened, and Nantwich had the ball in the net after just two minutes when Chris Flynn lobbed keeper David Newnes, only to be ruled offside.

And that was how the game continued as the home side started slowly and the teams scrapped for the ball without any conviction in midfield.

The breakthrough for the visitors came in the 34th minute from Flynn though and it was deserved.

After running to the byline playmaker Lennon fired the ball across goal for Flynn to tap home from two yards.

Just before the break though it should have been 1-1. Callum Warburton sent in a deep cross which Nantwich defender Richard Sutton headed behind for a corner.

From Keiran Walmsley's resultant kick the unmarked George Melling knocked his header wide of Ben Chapman's goal.

In the second half Kilford's men were inspired and went in search of an equaliser.

As Nantwich were pushed deep into defence on the hour mark, returning forward Peter Wright turned and shot just wide of goal.

Minutes later Town had a penalty appeal waved away when Carl Osman ran into the box and was knocked over.

As the crowd chanted for a push the referee waved play on and within a minute a handball call in the box was also dismissed by the match official.

But Town were determined and the leveller came in the 68th minute when Alex Taylor got on the end of a Keiran Walmsley free kick from the left to tap home from a yard out.

But then the black and whites sat back again and were punished when Lennon hit the back of the net with nine minutes left.

Nantwich countered from a Kendal run and found themselves three on two in midfield.

The ball was played through for Lennon by Glyn Blackhurst and after rounding a defender he coolly passed the ball into the net around Newnes.

Kendal pushed again in search of a point but Nantwich's defence threw itself in front of everything to hold on for the win, which leaves Kendal sixth, two points behind North Ferriby United.
