IAN Holmes from Bingley claimed his ninth Coniston Fell Race title at the weekend.

Despite trailing Rob Jebb by 45 seconds coming off Old Man, Holmes popped out in front at Windy Gap and never looked back.

The race started in perfect conditions, dry underfoot, with a gentle cool breeze on the tops and Jebb led from the off with Morgan Donnelly and Ben Bardsley on his heels.

This trio kept away from the chasing group consisting of the Hope brothers Lloyd Taggert, Simon Bailey and Ben Abdelnoor, with Ian holmes and Jim Davies further back still.

Coming off the Old Man, Jebb was still in the lead with a 45 second advantage on Holmes in about 10th, The Hope brothers (Rob and Danny) made their move, thinking they had it in the bag, but Holmes popped out 100 yrds in front of them at windy gap, extending his lead to nearly 30 seconds by the finish.

Donnelly stormed through to split the Hope brothers to take third.
