A GROUP of engineers from RAF Spadeadam at Brampton have signed up to the Cumbria County Golf Partnership’s Get into Golf programme.

The latest scheme targets businesses across the region with the aim of promoting a healthier lifestyle for employees and the 16 RAF workmates are enjoying a series of free lessons with PGA professional Stuart Rafferty at Eden Golf Club.

A RAF Spadeadam spokesman says: “It has been a great way to get together in a sociable way while the newcomers to the sport have really enjoyed themselves.

“Stuart has been a great teacher and everyone is improving while having plenty of good-natured banter.”

Rafferty added: “They have all been very good pupils – willing to listen and keen to improve. The more they have learnt about the game, the better they have become and that helps them enjoy the game even more.

“This scheme has been another way to introduce people to the sport, help develop pathways into future lessons or golf club membership and that can only be good for the long-term future of the clubs.”
