GIGGLESWICK School deputy headmaster Anthony Simpson is to represent Great Britain in duathlon in both the European and World Championships next year.
The maths specialist competed in qualifying races in Derbyshire earlier this year to earn his place in the sprint duathlon discipline, which involves a 5km run followed by a 20km bike ride and finishing with another run, this time over 2.5km.
He will take part in the 40 to 44-year-old age category in the events in Seville in March and Amsterdam in September 2020.
“I am delighted and honoured to have earned a place on Team GB for the forthcoming championships, especially as my age group is one of the most competitive,” said Mr Simpson.
Past pupils have also enjoyed podium places in international multi-sport events.
In 2011 Harry Coates won the 20 to 24-years-old category in the first ITU World Cross Triathlon Championships, and in 2013 Claire Lilley scooped a bronze medal in the duathlon world championships in her age group.
