One of the flatter courses in the mid Lancs series, Ryland’s Park in Lancaster, was no less of a challenge with good conditions underfoot it was flat out speed throughout which gained Kendal AAC athletes their podium positions making it hard to pick the performance of the day which began with the U11 girls .

Willow Rigg was head of the trio 21st Anna Cobley 22nd, closely followed by Harriet Barker .

The U11 boys packed well lead by Toby Acland 11th 17 secs separated their following seven youngsters Alfie Tipping, Jack Cowen, Jake Smith, Evan Gore, Ewan Black , Cooper Wadsworth and Joe Farrell.The boys finished 4th as a team.

One highlight of the day was a stunning run by U13 Sophie Cowin.

The hard working athletes battled with the Leven valley Georgia Bell making a decisive move on the final lap for first place in 8.40 with Georgia 8.52 being pushed hard to the line by Kendal’s Elsie Barker 8.55 in 3rd.

Ella Martindale ran well, 13th; Lara Smith, 16th; and Madeleine Martindale, 25th. The girls were convincing team winners

Success continued with the U13 boys finishing 2nd as a team, just four seconds separated Oliver Willoughby, 8th, and Josh Todd, 9th, Noah Wadsworth,16th, Alfie Addison, 20th, closely followed by Alfie Todd.

Yet more excitement followed with the U15 boys. Cracking runs from James Bowen, 1st, Henry Hunter, 4th, and Harry Bowen, 9th, gave them another team 1st.

Still more top performances by U17 women Lilian Lewis 2nd and Georgia Heath 4th.

Rosie Woodhams wasn’t just 2nd U20s runner, but led home the ladies team with a convincing 4th place.

Heather Eccles was 7th V35, Joanne Taylor 8th V45, next was Hazel Clark closely followed by Carolyn Kevan 5th V55.

Dianne Priestley 1st V65 and Sue Booth 11th V55 with top team results in all age groups 5th Ladies, 4th V35, 4th V45 and with equal points but given 2nd V55 team.

The V70 men covering the same distance as the ladies Pete Ion 6th and Pete Mitchell 7th.

The final race of the day kept pulses racing as Alasdair Russell worked hard to stay with the leading group and with a decisive kick on the short steep bank saw him edge into 2nd place behind U20 Jacob Cann Lancaster Uni therefore 1st senior.

With all 6 men in strong positions the team achieved 4th.

Will Sisson, 21st, Carl Hanaghan, 31st, Joe Todd, 46th, and 11th V40 and ultra distance runners Richard and Matt Wilson were close behind. 217 men ran.

Although this was the final in the series, Kendal will be well represented next week at the inter counties and the following week at English schools.
