A RECORD-shattering South Lakeland cyclist was on cloud nine after winning an arduous competition which he has made his own.

Rob Jebb, of Staveley, destroyed the Three Peaks Cyclocross on Sunday to gain his ninth record title after finishing a full ten minutes ahead of fellow Hope Factory Racing rider Paul Oldham on an dismal wet day in Yorkshire.

Despite missing several races, including last year’s event, due to a shoulder injury which required surgery, Rob’s natural ability and dedication to training meant he finished the course with nothing left to prove.

Having worked hard alongside clinicians from The Body Rehab, in Staveley, he is well and truly back - fitter, stronger and faster.

The 37-year-old said: “I was really pleased to win. It is one of my favourite races and missing it last year was not a nice feeling so I was doubly keen to do well.

“There were some bad bits weather wise, with driving rain and strong winds making it even tougher, but it was a good race and a good day all round.”

Rob led the field from the first off-road section and gained crucial advantage over the infamously picturesque Ingleborough with his superior running abilities.

On his two new Hopetech disc brake bike, he romped up the mountain and down to Cold Coates where he rode hard on the road leg helped by a welcome tailwind.

Once on Whernside, Rob continued to build on his three-minute lead. With renewed confidence in his shoulder he descended like a stone to Ribblehead viaduct.

By then he had around a six-minute lead but continued to wreak havoc on those behind him and gained another minute before the climb up the final summit of Pen Y Ghent.

From here he simply pushed on again and built another three minutes to finish in 3.09.21.
