RAIN washed out the eagerly anticipated derby clash between Netherfield and Kendal at Parkside Road.

There had been 16.1 overs played with Kendal on 41-1, however the clouds soon descended before the rain and thunderstorms appeared.

Both sides waited until 4.30pm before the game was officially called off, with both teams awarded five points each.

Kendal had made a bright start after both Ryan Shepherd and Oliver Tyson put on a first wicket stand of 31.

However a bowling change which saw Marc Hadwin brought into the attack slowed the Kendal runs down before Hadwin trapped Shepherd LBW for 10.

Ben Phillips joined Tyson at the crease to push the score along to 41 before the game was rained off.

Kendal went into the game with South African Shaun Van Berg deputising for the injured Jason Dawes who sustained a hamstring injury, while Zachary McCaskie was also out injured for the game.

Dawes is set to return for the away trip to Blackpool on Saturday.
