CUMBERLAND made it a competitive finish against Oxfordshire at Challow as their second MCCCA Trophy match went to a last-over finish, but they lost by five wickets.

Put in to bat, Cumberland made 235-8 and after they lost two wickets, with good support from Andy Gleave (28) to take the score on to 91.

Further runs came from Stuart Burrows (27),James Smith (25), while James Beaumont (23 not out), helped Graham Dawson to an unbeaten 39.

Oxfordshire were made to struggle for the runs - with ten an over wanted at one stage.

Tight work came from Dawson (2-35), Beaumont (0-30) and James Lowe (0-39), off ten overs apiece.

However, Shivali’s competent unbeaten 80 and solid runs from Haupt (61) and David Smith (45no) meant Oxfordshire passed the target for a five-wicket win with five balls to spare.

Cumberland play Shropshire at the Ernest Valentine ground in Workington, on Sunday, May 10, for their third MCCA Trophy game , still looking to open their account for the season
